France-based Technicolor, Canada-based Nerd Corps Entertainment and Australia-based A Stark Production have finalised their partnership for the production of the CG-animated television series, The Deep.
The television series is based on the internationally acclaimed graphic novel series created by multi-award-winning best-selling comic book author and playwright Tom Taylor (Injustice: Gods Among Us, Earth 2, Superior Iron Man), illustrated by James Brouwer (Justice League Beyond) and published by Gestalt Publishing. Taylor will serve as head writer for the series, and Brouwer will serve as art director.
Commissioned as a series of 26 half-hour episodes, The Deep has been pre-sold to a number of broadcasters.
“The combined talents of A Stark Production and Nerd Corps Entertainment are a creative powerhouse capable of delivering a spectacular animated adventure series,” said Alison Warner, VP, IP Sales, Acquisitions and Co-Productions at Technicolor.
“The unique blend of undersea adventures, science and family dynamics make The Deep a fantastic property,” said Asaph Fipke, CEO and founder of Nerd Corps.
“We have the best people possible working on this series, and have done absolutely everything in our power to maintain the integrity of the storytelling that won people over in the graphic novels. With both Taylor and Brouwer in pivotal roles, this series cannot help but amaze,” said Wolfgang Bylsma, Editor-in-Chief of Gestalt Publishing.
The Deep follows the incredible adventures of the Nektons, a family of underwater explorers who live on a submarine. There’s the fearless 12-year-old Antaeus; his analytical 15-year-old sister Fontaine, an astute navigator; and their parents Will, an oceanographer, and Kaiko, a marine biologist; and, of course… Ant’s pet fish, Jeffrey! Their ongoing adventures continue a family legacy of exploring uncharted areas of the earth’s oceans to unravel the mysteries of the deep sea.
The Deep graphic novels are published by Gestalt Publishing Pty Ltd and distributed worldwide through Madman (Aus/NZ), Turnaround (UK) and Last Gasp (USA) as well as in digital formats through Comixology and www.gestaltcomics.com
