Comics Can Have A Deep Emotional Resonance… they can touch our heart strings and make us think about our neighbourhood, our society and, indeed, the entire world. They can make us reconsider our place amongst it all.
This isn’t that comic. Because, sometimes, comics can just be FUN. And what isn’t fun about a giant ape battling an enormous cephalopod in some variant Australia with the fate of an entire community hanging in the balance?!
KONGUTAN is a 60 foot tall ape based broadly on Gigantopithecus, an extinct ape from east and south-east asia who lived approximately 350 thousand years ago, though this one is still very much alive. We coined the name Kongutan as “Gigantopithecus vs Kraken” didn’t quite have the same ring to it. Alliteration is always awesome.
THE KRAKEN is an 120 foot long squid based broadly on the Giant Squid, a creature that still roams our oceans to this day.
They do not like each other. That’s pretty much all you need to know.
